[Challenge the Frontier]
The thing that I probably enjoyed most about working at camp was the challenge course. Don't get me wrong, I enjoyed the kids, the nature programs, the chapel, and the creek hikes. The thing that I loved the most and felt most in control and at ease when I was leading was the challenge course. Sometimes when I worked with the outdoor education groups there were times when I wanted to pull my hair out. But before we left the challenge course I always felt like I had made a difference in the way that a young person realized that they could do something that they would have seen as impossible when the challenge was presented. It is always amazing to me too that sometimes groups that seem to really hate each other can quickly bind together and get tasks done with the right guidance.

[What's so great about oatmeal?]
Oatmeal is a healthy and filling way to start the morning. For a while now my weight has been quite a bit more than what I'd like it to be. Recently my pants have been slightly looser due to my forgetfulness to eat during the day. That's not a great way to do things though, because at the end of the day I have the desire to fill myself with food that may be ok in moderation, but I end up just eating more than I need to.
One of my employees has gotten into eating primal. She eats meat, greens, berries, etc... That our early ancestors would have found by gathering and hunting. I guess the idea is to be removed from the foods that have extra salt and sugar added along with all the extra processing.
That got me thinking about my morning routine, and how I normally just go to work on an empty stomach. In just the last three days I've found that by eating a good and natural breakfast, I'm not nearly as prone to eating other stuff to fill myself, and I feel more energetic. I think that my oatmeal breakfast also gives me enough variety that I won't get tired of it, but also enough structure so I don't have to decide what I'm eating in the morning. It's been decided for me already. I'm having oatmeal.

[my sweets]
Most days on my way to work I pass a home hobby garden filled with an abundance of sweet potato vines. How would I know such a random piece of information without knowing the gardener? I have been growing my own patch of sweet potatoes this year.
On a whim after seeing an article in Mother Earth News I decided to order some vine slips and take a chance at what I could grow. My results were varied. Although my sweets did not get nearly as large as I had hoped, I did get a decent selection that would be good for baking and eating with steak. I would contribute this to my delayed planting of the slips a little late and the densely packed soil.
This Fall I think I'll incorporate some aged manure from the barn animals as well as some leaves into the area where I planted the sweet potatoes this year and see what happens. I also planted some sweet potatoes in the area inside my garden which has had the soil worked a bit more. The results were four to six inch long sausage shaped sweet potatoes. I had planted these really late, maybe even mid to late July. If these had more time to mature, I don't doubt that I would have had some nicely sized sweet potatoes.
Back to the hobby farmer... I had dug all my potatoes last night, unsure if I was pulling them out of the ground too early. The deer in the area have been feasting magnificently on the sweet potato vines. Combined with the cold nights and the leafless plants I decided to pull them out of the ground. I suppose my timing was perfect since the hobby farmer was pulling his out of the ground this morning when I drove past. I need to stop by and make his acquaintance, It looks to me like he could give me some pointers.

[Blogger app test run]
Just found the blogger app while catching up in my tech news. iDygest ran the article and it was interesting that o couldn't find the app by searching for it. I had to look at one of the source links that was at the bottom of the page, then follow one of the links from that second article which redirected me to the app store description of the app.
Downloading it was a breeze, and I already like it better than "that other" app that I tried to use to blog from my phone. Granted using the bluetooth keyboard with my iPhone is a little cumbersome, what was really the worst part was not being able to close the app, and reopen it without having to rewrite my whole post. So far with blogger when my screen has timed out, or when I've closed out of the app I haven't had to start over at all.

[ camping with condiments]
My latest instructable has been published to the homepage. http://www.instructables.com/id/A-Condiment-Solution-For-Camping/ It's been way too long since I've posted, I know. I haven't forgotten about this blog. I promise, I've been thinking about moving over to another hosting service that makes it easier to post from my iPhone. Anybody have any ideas? I never really use a computer anymore except at work, and blogging on company time is frowned upon I suppose.

[no title]
It has been quite some time since I have written. My apologies to all of those who cling to every word that I write. Not too much has been happening, or too much has been happening? I don't know. Things are still busy at work, we are gearing up to sell another cell phone carrier, and the pressure is on to do well.
I have been thinking quite a bit recently about what "Foothill Frontier" should be aside from a catchy name and logo that I thought up. I'd like to turn it into some sort of marketable material, but don't have too much (or have too many ideas which fill my mind ) and keep me from realizing my true potential. I enjoy (on occasion) looking at the blogs of my friends and think that I'd like to have a web presence that other people will miss if I go on vacation. There are so many blogs that have become enterprises after becoming noticed by the public. thechive, cakewrecks, peopleofwalmart, fml, minibulldesign. All good representations of websites that have a 'cult' following. Seems like a lot of work though. Sometimes I wish that I had more time to follow my dreams instead of working retail. Then again, maybe there are dreams that I have not realized yet. My Brother-in-law brought up a good point a few days ago when I was talking to him which i will paraphrase. Doing God's work doesn't mean doing it for free. Maybe doing Gods work means getting paid to do something you love and being able to live comfortably.
